Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that a taskforce will soon be established to facilitate the process of amending Nepal's constitution, with necessary groundwork already underway.

Speaking at the ninth national conference of the Nepal National Dalit Welfare Organisation, Minister Lekhak emphasized that the constitution would be amended through consensus among all political parties.

"The Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) will each form their own taskforces in the coming days to carry out the required preparations for the amendment," Minister Lekhak stated.

The Home Minister elaborated that the amendment process will begin by identifying key issues through discussions. This will be followed by phased talks and consultations with all political parties to reach a consensus on the proposed changes.

"Constitutional amendments will be made in a manner that strengthens inclusiveness and further solidifies the document, rather than undermining it," he clarified.

The initiative signals the government’s intention to address various concerns and ensure broader representation while reinforcing the democratic foundation of the constitution.
